To compliment our jewels designed in-house, we are passionate about showcasing unique jewellery brands from across the globe. The latest designer to join The Whitby Jet Store family is fellow British jewellery designer, Linda Macdonald. It just so happens that our newest recruit is not so far away, residing in the beautiful Loch Lomond of Scotland. Working and living in such stunning surroundings inspires Linda to create collections that feature the delicate details of nature. Let’s find out more.
Growing up in Scotland
During her childhood there was creativity all around her, it was no surprise that Linda also pursued a creative career. With her father working for a thread company and her mother a keen seamstress, her home was just as inspirational as the landscape. She started expressing her creativity using fabrics and wool although she soon turned to sketching the scenery all around her. She explains that her village Cardross, Scotland was full of walks, woods and wildlife to keep her hands busy.
Her love for painting and sketching led her to studying at the Glasgow School of Art where in her first year she had the opportunity to delve into the world of jewellery. She enjoyed how she could tell a story through a wearable piece of art leading her to change her course to specialising in Jewellery and Silversmithing.
Inspired by the Delicate Details of Nature
After graduating in 1996, Linda set up her workshop immediately where she designed her first collection that was inspired by both nature and romance. A theme that would remain closely linked as the brand developed. Now married with two beautiful children, she has found that since becoming a mother she has enjoyed witnessing the world through their eyes and sharing her childhood memories with them. Their love for the small details in nature has reignited her passion for the wilderness, which has been channelled into her designs. Her enchanting collections feature beautiful woodland scenes, delicate floral details and sweet romantic hearts to convey her love for the outdoors. From the magic of changing seasons to the tranquil feel of the countryside at dusk, her collections cover it all. Handcrafted to Perfection
The Linda Macdonald brand now has three workshops in Cardross, Argyll and Bute on the West Coast of Scotland. Each piece is handcrafted exclusively in Scotland using sterling silver with a hint of gold. The small yet expert team use traditional techniques such as hand piercing and flame torch soldering to guarantee exceptional quality. Winning awards for her approach to craftsmanship and design, a Linda Macdonald design is one to treasure for a lifetime!
