We can’t think of a better way to get in the festive spirit than the Whitby Christmas Market. The schedule may look a little different this year due to the uncertainty of the pandemic earlier in the year yet the itinerary is full of magical events and activities. Beginning early this Friday evening (26th November), local musician, Alistair Griffin will be performing on the Greatest Hits Radio Stage followed by the enchanting Christmas lights switch on alongside the Town Mayor of Whitby and the Christmas card winner. The spectacular free event will run from the 26th until the 28th November ensuring that locals and visitors alike can enjoy the wonderful festive experience.

What’s On

Don’t miss a thing with the Whitby Christmas Festival time schedule but get a taste for what's to come with our highlights.

Friday Evening

After you’ve witnessed the beautiful glow of the Christmas lights switch on, you can spend your Friday night watching the aerial performer, Arco The Dream Engine, do their thing under a 12m high, air-filled arch that changes colour with its own light show. Be impressed from a far or underneath as the framed aerialist certainly does look breathtaking against the dark night sky. Then dance the evening away to the sound of local band, Skandals offering their a selection of their - and yours - favourite Ska songs. The perfect way to launch the festivities.

Saturday

Saturday brings more wonderful events with a range of local musicians and singers taking to the stage. At 3:30 a huge digital Christmas Book installation will tell the much loved story of The Night Before Christmas. Illustrated by Richard Johnson and animated by the Codex team, the magical tale comes to life with narrations by Stephen Fry and music from the BBC Symphony Orchestra. Lasting 6 minutes, you are transported to an enchanting world! The tale will be performed very 20 minutes to the close of the market. It’s not one to miss!

To finish Saturday’s festivities a pet friendly firework display will be launched from the east cliff. As you can imagine this display will bring the fun, colour and action expected yet with no noise to protect the ears of our pets and little ones alike.

Sunday

The Living Snow Globe by Fool’s Paradise will glide through the town every two hours from 11am Sunday. Expect to see an incredibly beautiful winter wonderland scene covered in a blanket of snow. Imagine the snow globes of your childhood come to life as the Snow Queen interacts with her audience controlling the special effects of the globe. We'll leave the rest to your imagination!

Enjoy the festive story telling, fairground rides and a visit to santa for free throughout the weekend!
